Curriculum

A continuous learning journey, not a classroom syllabus

At FAT, the curriculum is not limited to what is taught in a classroom. It is a continuous learning journey that combines technology, STEM, feminist leadership, wellbeing and community practice. Across our programmes, participants develop technical knowledge alongside critical thinking, confidence, collective leadership and the ability to create change within their communities.

Learning is participatory and experiential. Rather than memorizing concepts, participants learn through dialogue, reflection, hands-on projects, field immersion, mentoring, community engagement and peer learning. As participants progress through the FAT Model, the curriculum grows with them — from building foundational skills to facilitating programmes and leading community initiatives.

Our curriculum continues to evolve through participant feedback, community realities and years of organizational learning, ensuring that it remains relevant while staying rooted in feminist values and community leadership.

Technology & Digital Literacy

Digital literacy, internet safety, responsible technology use, software applications, digital documentation, online collaboration and digital storytelling. As they progress, participants engage with emerging technologies, critical digital literacy and technology from a feminist perspective.

STEM Learning

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics through experimentation, design challenges, creative problem-solving and practical projects that connect classroom concepts with everyday life — encouraging curiosity while challenging gender stereotypes around STEM.

Feminist Leadership & Agency

Leadership is developed alongside technical learning rather than after it. Participants explore identity, gender, power, rights and social justice while building confidence, communication, negotiation, facilitation and decision-making skills.

Community Leadership & Collective Action

Participants take on facilitating workshops, organizing Open Houses, leading campaigns, mentoring younger participants and building relationships with families and community institutions — learning to organize collectively and create community-led change.

Organisational Leadership

The Collectivization Initiative covers programme planning and implementation, facilitation, project management, documentation, budgeting, PMEL, democratic decision-making, resource mobilization and organizational development — preparing participants to lead Community Tech Centres.

Wellbeing & Collective Care

Reflective practices, peer support, self-awareness, emotional wellbeing and collective care run through every programme. Participants have access to mentoring, counselling support and an in-house therapist whenever needed.

Learning by doing

Learning happens through experience as much as instruction. Across the FAT Model, participants engage in:

Hands-on STEM projects Technology workshops Community-based assignments Field immersion & community mapping Residential learning programmes Reflection circles & peer learning Community Open Houses Exposure visits Campaigns & advocacy Mentoring & facilitation practice Self-paced learning on the Learning Portal

A living curriculum

FAT's curriculum is continuously shaped by the experiences of participants, facilitators and communities. As technologies evolve and new community needs emerge, the curriculum is reviewed and strengthened through practice, feedback and reflection.

This ensures that learning remains relevant, locally rooted and responsive while staying grounded in FAT's commitment to feminist leadership, technology, STEM and collective action.

Policies

Our policies are an extension of our feminist values

They help us create safe, inclusive and accountable spaces for girls, young women, staff, partners and communities. Rather than being compliance documents alone, our policies guide how we work, make decisions, build relationships and uphold trust across the organization. The Code of Conduct is designed as a practical framework for living FAT's values in everyday work and applies across our programmes, workplaces, community spaces and digital platforms.

Code of Conduct

Sets out the behavioural and ethical standards expected of everyone associated with FAT — Collective Leaders, Champions, Companions, Coaches, Counsellors, Consultants and CI participants. It promotes feminist leadership, non-hierarchical ways of working, respectful communication, accountability and professional integrity.

Child Safeguarding Policy

Establishes child-safe standards for all programmes, with guidance on safe interactions, mandatory reporting of concerns, creating safe learning environments and responding appropriately to child protection issues.

Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH)

Outlines reporting mechanisms, investigation procedures, protections against retaliation and the functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), in line with Indian law.

Privacy, Confidentiality & Data Protection

Governs the ethical collection, storage and use of personal information; confidentiality obligations; secure digital systems; and the responsible handling of organizational and participant data.

Financial Integrity & Anti-Fraud

Transparent financial systems through clear procurement procedures, internal controls, fraud prevention measures, whistleblower mechanisms and accountability processes.

Health, Wellbeing & Professional Support

Provides access to counselling and wellbeing support, encourages healthy work practices and promotes collective care for staff and participants.

Equality, Inclusion & Non-Discrimination

Rooted in feminist principles, FAT is committed to creating spaces free from discrimination based on gender, caste, religion or other forms of exclusion — promoting dignity, equity, inclusion and respect.

Governance & Accountability

Defines roles, responsibilities and decision-making processes across the organization, supporting transparency, ethical leadership and collective accountability.
